CredibleMeds founder Dr. Raymond Woosley celebrates the legacy of outgoing FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg

Everyone in DC knows that the FDA Commissioner’s job is the most difficult appointed position in government.  During her tenure, she has not only made sure the public was protected, she has been tremendously successful at steering the “aircraft carrier” with an outboard motor.  She has improved the policies by which the FDA enforces the regulations and she had done it with her strongest weapon, the science.  When she didn’t have the resources to meet the Agency’s challenges, she partnered effectively with her government partner’s like the NIH and CDC.  She encouraged the academic and non-profit community to join the Agency’s mission and I’m very proud to have worked closely with her when C-Path created the Coalition Against Major Diseases for Alzheimers and the Critical Path to Tuberculosis Drug Therapy with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

She will leave a lasting, positive and powerful imprint on the FDA and I’m sure she will find important ways to continue to improve the nation’s public health.
